It’s official: Michael Flynn has flipped.
After more than a year of speculation about his illegal activities, after endless reports of his sketchy, criminal minded behavior, after ages of denials and lies, Flynn has pled guilty to one count of making false statements to the FBI.
The guilty plea is damning enough: while a member of the Trump administration and the Trump transition team, he admits to lying about his intents and interactions with Russian officials regarding the discussion of U.S. sanctions. But it’s light fare compared to the information he will be providing Robert Mueller and his probe.
Flynn will fully cooperate and testify that Trump personally, and his senior team more broadly, ordered him to make contacts with Russians during the 2016 campaign and transition. One of those senior administration officials we now know is Jared Kushner. Kushner still works in the White House and still has a security clearance despite individuals conducting a background check on Kushner highly recommending that it be revoked.
This is, obviously, a HUGE development. I would go so far as to label it the biggest piece of Trump-Russia news. We now know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump’s actions surrounding his interactions with Russia and Russian officials were intentional. We now know that they involved discussions about items that were of material importance to Russia.
The ONLY thing we don’t yet know with 100 percent certainty (even though we have some theories that are as strong as the Theory of Gravity) is why. Why did Trump, Kushner and Flynn work with the Russians? What did they want to gain? What did they give? What was the nature of their discussions? Did it involve Trump seeking foreign help on the campaign? It seems like Flynn has the answers to these questions.
Jared Kushner is in a world of trouble. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was indicted in the next two weeks, if not before the end of the year. I think he won’t be the only shoe to drop either: if Flynn’s activities with the transition team were criminal in nature, then Mike Pence, Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Stephen Miller, Hope Hicks, Reince Priebus, Ivanka, Eric, Don Jr. and other members of the right-wing syndicate could find themselves in legal hot water.
If they’re guilty, lock them up.
