This hurricane season has been one of the worst of my lifetime. The latest to suffer the wrath of such a storm is Puerto Rico.
Hurricane Maria was the strongest storm to hit the island in nearly a century. It was a direct hit on some densely populated areas and could leave the entire island without power for several months. They are particularly vulnerable down there right now due to the combination of recovery from Hurricane Irma and a severe economic crisis on the island.
It wasn’t just the island of Puerto Rico either. The island of Dominica sustained serious damage from Maria and needs your assistance with rebuilding and rescue efforts.
The New York Times has compiled a list of organizations, both local and international, that could use your help during this time. Please consider making a donation.
These powerful hurricanes are just one of the many side effects of a changing climate. We need energy and policy solutions that enable us to successfully switch to a zero carbon economy. The MIT Energy Initiative researches such solutions. Please consider making a donation to the cause today. Climate change will not slow down without concrete action from us. We can help people and solve problems if we take the initiative to get involved and be a part of the solution.
