Day 148: Black Lives Matter

Philando Castile’s killer is walking free today and I feel sick to my stomach.

Yet again, institutional racism has needlessly taken the life of person of color in America. No words can describe the sickness of this cycle. Cop shoots black person. Cops not charged or found not guilty.

There’s not much I can add personally here. This American horror needs to stop. We need significant changes made to our justice system, hell to every system we have in America. Police who commit violent crimes need to be subjected to the same criminal standards as any other citizen. Our country cannot and should not work one way for one group of people and another way for another group of people with the only difference being the color of one’s skin.

I cannot even imagine what Philando Castile’s family is going through, or any family in the United States that has lost a relative to state-sponsored violence for that matter.

We must stop the pain that these systems have caused so many people of color. We must fight back with courage, persistence and passion every day, not just on those when a grave injustice is committed.
